Future of online education lies in a competitive job market and our need for convenience

It used to be that a high school diploma was enough to ensure a good job at a competitive wage. Then that turned into a bachelor’s degree. Now, many people are finding that in order to get on the fast track to success, a master’s degree is necessary. Part of the future of online education lays in this fact. Online learning allows for you to further your career options while continuing full-time employment.

One of the reasons distance education is becoming increasingly common is due to growing availability of the technologies that make it all possible. As high-speed Internet access becomes available in more and more homes, learning from the web becomes easier. Plus, you can learn at your own pace, which is extremely helpful for people with families. It makes it so much easier to balance work life, home life, and your education.

Online learning isn’t just for people who are returning to education, however. Current university demands also impact the future of Internet learning. Courses can be extremely difficult to get during the school year, especially for certain majors. Summer school isn’t always an option because of living arrangements. Online courses through the university provide college students with another option to get the credits necessary to graduate on time.

As the job market becomes increasingly competitive and people find themselves having to keep up, online courses are going to become more prevalent. Online education programs can be tailored to fit individual needs, whether you need an associate degree or an MBA. Or you can take one specific course to brush up on a specific skill, like something computer or math related. This type of education is geared to meet a diverse set of educational goals.

New Study Shows Steep Rise in Online Education

A record 4.6 million college students enrolled in online classes in the fall of 2008, according a newly released study by the Sloan Consortium.

Thumbs Up

The study, “Learning on Demand: Online Education in the United States, 2009″, found that enrollment in online courses rose by almost 17% from the previous year, while enrollment in the overall higher education population rose by only 1.2%.

More than one in four college and university students now studies online.

Over 2500 colleges and universities took part in this important research, which was a collective effort of the Sloan Consortium, the Babson Survey Research Group, and the College Board.

Part of the growth in online education was attributed to the rise in college enrollments spurred by problems in the economy. It appears that financial ‘hard times’ motivate individuals to return to school to improve their odds of finding suitable employment or job advancement.

For-profit online schools continue to benefit from high demand for online education programs that inherently offer flexibility and convenience to busy students.

The new Sloan C study confirms what students already know — that online learning is the wave of the future.

And, much to the chagrin of some traditional higher education institutions, it is here to stay.

"I'm Ready"

There are a few reasons worth mentioning to get certified by Microsoft:

  • Microsoft certifications are the most well known IT certifications in the world.
  • Microsoft certifications are easily recognized by hiring managers and human resource managers
  • Microsoft certifications have strong support by book publishers, learning companies, video training companies, and IT Pros around the world. For example, if you go to a bookstore you will find a Microsoft certification book on any exam. Because of this broad support of Microsoft’s certifications paths, you will have more resources to help you obtain your certification.
  • Over 85% of the servers in use by companies today are Windows Servers; Over 90% of the desktops in use today run the Windows desktop operating system; Over 85% of the end users use Microsoft Office; Over 85% of the email servers in the world run Microsoft Exchange. Is that enough of reasons to choose to be certified by Microsoft?
